Mouse and Bhoomi Bongo and Max Maraca |

|
One
of the best aspects of the series are the illustrations by Andy
Everitt-Stewart, enlivening very simple plotlines with brightly-coloured
characters to make young readers smile. Here the mouse and his pal
Fiona Bear join forces to coax the beat from South American maracas
and Cuban drums. As the days pass (each one named) and mood colours
change, Petra Pigeon swoops in to enjoy their alfresco gig. Before
long, the whole neighbourhood joins in, combining jazz with camping
on the lawn. Even rain doesn’t stop play; their rhythms follow
those of the raindrops. And, naturally, a rainbow in all its colours
plus an informatiove “All about…” section add
more learning to this percussion-focused tale.
